Terms of Participation
These terms of participation apply to the educational provider “Sprachportal GmbH”; Willy-Brandt-Platz 7; 35567 Wetzlar, hereinafter referred to as “Sprachportal.”
1. Registration
Registrations are possible immediately after the publication of course and examination offers. They can be made in writing via registration form, fax, email, online registration form, or online shop. We process registrations in the order in which they are received.
Registrations can only be considered if there are still places available in the desired course. Your registration is binding and constitutes a legally binding request to conclude a contract.
The contract is concluded upon confirmation by Sprachportal, subject to the condition that the minimum number of participants is reached (see section 6 “Course Conditions”). This means the contract becomes effective only once this condition is met.
If you are taking a continuing course that spans two or more months, you have the option to register in advance for the follow-up course.
Please attend the first session even if you have not received any notification from Sprachportal.
Please note that the first session is not considered a trial lesson. If you are unsure of your prior knowledge, please use our advisory services.
Participants must generally be at least 16 years old. Exceptions will be noted in the specific course descriptions.
2. Consultation and Placement
We offer personal consultations for basic education and German as a foreign language. This is a prerequisite for registration.

3. Fees and Additional Costs
The participation fee for each course is listed on the respective course page.
The minimum fee per course is €30; for courses with more than 29 lessons, €60.
Additional fees may apply if the minimum number of participants is not reached (see section 6), and these are eligible for discounts.
Additional costs such as material fees, teaching materials, usage fees, exam fees, textbooks, etc., must be paid in full without discount.
4. Fee Reductions You may receive a discount on the participation fee (not on additional costs) if you have previously taken a course at Sprachportal. Only one reason for a discount may be applied per registration. Discounts are not available for company-paid registrations. To apply for a discount, submit proof with your registration or present it in person. If proof is missing, you will be charged the full amount. Submit documents by the second day of the course (or one day after for weekend courses), otherwise no discount will be granted. Special discounts during promotional campaigns are subject to separate conditions available at our locations.
5. Payment The course fee is due in full by the due date indicated on the invoice. If you have provided a valid SEPA direct debit mandate, the amount will be withdrawn from your account. Otherwise, you will receive an invoice.
For courses starting between the 1st and 15th of the month, fees are withdrawn by the 8th of the following month.
For courses starting from the 16th to the end of the month, withdrawal is by the 23rd of the following month.
If a direct debit fails, the charge will be repeated. Outstanding amounts may be handed over to a collection agency. If a course costs more than €150, payment in installments may be arranged. Details are available at your local Sprachportal site.
You can request a refund from your bank within eight weeks after the debit date, subject to your bank’s terms.
You can revoke the SEPA mandate up to 7 days before execution.
6. Course Conditions
Courses require a minimum number of participants.
If this number is not reached, Sprachportal may still choose to run the course at a higher fee. You will receive a new contract offer.
If a course is canceled for reasons attributable to Sprachportal, you will receive a proportional refund. No other costs will be reimbursed.
For online courses, participants must ensure proper technical setup and install necessary software themselves.
Software, licenses, and login credentials must not be shared and must be deleted after the course.
Sprachportal reserves the right to exercise its house rules at all course locations.
7. Course Cancellations If courses or individual sessions are canceled for reasons beyond Sprachportal’s control (e.g. force majeure), there is no right to rescheduling or partial refunds.
8. Withdrawal and Cancellation 8.A. Legal Right of Withdrawal You have the right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days without giving any reason. The withdrawal period is 14 days from the day the contract is concluded.

Withdrawal Consequences You will be reimbursed all payments within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal notice. The same payment method will be used, unless otherwise agreed. If the course started during the withdrawal period, you will owe the proportionate fee for services already provided.
8.B. Sprachportal’s Cancellation Terms (in addition to legal withdrawal rights) Please inform us in writing if you wish to cancel your registration. Verbal or telephone cancellations are not accepted. Not showing up does not count as cancellation. Cancellations must be received no later than 20 days before the course begins. Otherwise, the full fee must be paid. No fees apply for cancellations due to course cancellations. Separate rules apply for events held outside Sprachportal locations or for exams and webinars.
9. Termination Ordinary termination is not possible during the course. Extraordinary termination for important reasons remains possible.
10. Rebooking You may switch courses up to 7 days before the start. After that, changes are only allowed before the third session and must be approved. Rebooking is only possible if there are spaces available. For weekend or short courses (up to 5 sessions), switching is only allowed up to 7 days before the start.
11. Certificate of Participation If you would like a certificate of participation, request it early from your course instructor. A €10 fee applies for certificates requested after the course ends.
12. Data Protection We process your personal data for the purpose of providing and improving our services, including customer surveys and future communication about Sprachportal’s offerings. We use your email and phone number only with your consent. No data is shared with third parties for marketing. You can opt out at any time by emailing [email protected] or writing to a Sprachportal location.
13. Liability Participants attend courses at their own risk. Sprachportal accepts no liability for accidents or for loss/damage to personal property unless caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct. No accident insurance is provided.
14. Excursions and Study Trips For excursions and study trips, Sprachportal acts only as an agent unless stated otherwise.
15. Change of Instructor Sprachportal reserves the right to change instructors or course locations for important reasons. This does not constitute grounds for cancellation.
16. Vouchers Gift vouchers can be purchased for courses. Terms for vouchers can be found at Sprachportal locations.
